Kati Finally Gets Her Transplant

At the beginning of March Kati will have 4 baby teeth and 2 upper permanent teeth pulled. She was born without a couple permanent teeth on the bottom and the baby teeth that are in there now just happen to be silver caps. She has crowding on the top. So to make room for everything to come down straight, the oral surgeon will pull out the upper baby teeth and reach up through the socket and remove the crowded permanents, and instead of tossing them, they will transplant them into the missing spaces below. This requires drilling into the jaw to make a socket. This procedure is a great alternative to dental implants (and to my amazement, way cheaper). Only a dentist will be able to tell she had this done. The teeth look the same.

We have been seeing this oral surgeon for about 2 years now. They have been taking x-rays every six months to see if the roots on those permanent teeth are just the right length. They finally are and she is the perfect candidate. She is actually looking forward to this. I don't think she realizes how painfull it is going to be.
